Spironolactone a viable alternative for nonresolving central serous chorioretinopathy

This real-world analysis compared the effectiveness of oral spironolactone versus conservative treatment for patients with persistent central serous chorioretinopathy. Complete resolution of subretinal fluid was significantly more likely and faster with spironolactone than with conservative treatment. Anatomic improvements appeared to be comparable between arms, but vision gains favored the spironolactone group. Clinical Ophthalmology, June 2020

Racial disparities in clinical features of MOG antibody-associated optic neuritis
The authors conducted a multicenter retrospective study to determine racial differences in the clinical features of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated optic neuritis. White populations were more likely to have recurrent optic neuritis and extra-optic nerve manifestations than Asians. Optic disc swelling, neuroimaging findings, presenting visual acuity and final visual acuity did not differ by race. American Journal of Ophthalmology, July 2020

Low-dose steroids can minimize adverse events in myasthenia gravis
Investigators compared the effectiveness of low versus moderate doses of prednisolone in adults with ocular myasthenia gravis. After 12 weeks of treatment, 53% of the low-dose group and 77% of the moderate-dose group responded to treatment (P=0.28). Adverse events were observed only in the moderate-dose group. Clinical Ophthalmology, July 2020
