ABSTRACT The seventeen
partially sighted patients in low vision clinic, Department of Ophthalmology,
Songklanagarind Hospital, from January 1997 to June 1998 were analyzed. There
were 11 males and 6 females with the age between 4-66 years, included pedriatic
patient (1 - 15 year) 52.9%. The etiology of visual impairment were
retinal disease (57.14%), optic nerve pathology (28.57%), congenital
cataract (9.52%) and glaucoma (4.76%) respectively. Eighty eight percent
for distance and seventy percent for near had visual acuity between 5/200
- 20/200. The prescription of visual aids for near were spectacles (29.4%),
hand held magnifier (23.6%) and for distance were telescope (29.4%). Sixty
six percent for near and sixty percent for distance had visul acuity equal
or better than 20/50.
