Study of Ocular Manifestations in HIV Patients.

ABSTRACT : The
prospective study of ocular manifestations in HIV patients were studied
during May 1994 to January 1996 at Siriraj Hospital.
The patients were divided
into two groups, group I - patients without ocular symptom, group II - patients
with ocular symptoms. In group I we found fundus abnormalities in 28% of the
patients, most of them were cotton wool spots and retinal hemorrhages. In
group II the chief complaints were decrease vision, red eyes and diplopia
which dued to retinitis, choroiditis, optic neuropathy, etc. The most common
finding in group II was cytomegalovirus retinitis.
With the increasing incidence
of HIV infection, ophthalmologist should be aware of ocular manifestations
of this syndrome.
