Five Years of Low Vision Clinic in Ramathibodi Hospital 1990-1994

ABSTRACT Two hundred and ninety three of visual handicaps attended in low vinon Department of Ophthalmology, Ramathibodi Hospital during 1990-1994 were analyzed.

They are 184 males and 109 females with the age range of 3.5 to 89 years. The majority of patients under 65 years old (87%). The causes of visual impairment were retinal diseases (33%), nerve pathology (18%) and abnormal macular (16%) respectively. Most of the patients had visual acuity of 5/200-15/200. The acceptance of visual aids are as follow; spectacle 40%, spectacle with hand held magnifier (15%), hand held magnifier 11%, These made 35.9% of patients who had near visual acuity equal to or better than 20/50 increased to 65.7%.
