ABSTRACT A study included 65 children with
the risk of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in Songklanakarind Hospital
over a 13 month period.
The total incidence of
ROP was 56.92%. The incidence of that in less than 1,500 gram children was
65.63%, while in over 1,500 gram children was seen in 44.83%. 70% of children
less than 28 weeks gestational age was found to be ROP, which have greater
number than that of children over 29 weeks gestational age. The babies, which
received oxygen therapy, had incidence of ROP equal to 63.16%, while no any
ROP baby in non- oxygen therapy group.
We concluded that the increasing
risk of ROP was related to low birth weight, low gestational age, the receiving
oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilator therapy.
