ABSTRACT A
review of solar retinopathy associated with watching an eclipse of the sun
is presented in aspects of mechanism, pathophysiology and clinical aspect.
Transmission of solar
energy through various protective devices was measured with a research radiometer
and photomultiplier tube. Though there is no 100% safe filter for viewing
a solar eclipse, reduction of radiation by filter is recommended. Public,
schoolchildren and their teachers should be acquainted with this hazard
in order to prevent this condition which may be found on the coming eclipse
in Thailand, October 24, 1995.
