ABSTRACT The cycloplegic effect of 1% atropine and 1% cyclopentolate was compared by retinoscopy findings. The subjects were 73 cases (144 eyes) consisting of pre-school and school children aged of not more than 12 years with hyperopic esotropia.

The mean significant differences between the two drugs was +0.38 diopters, with 1% atropine revealed more hyperopia than 1% cyclopentolate. A regression model relating spherical power of both 1% cyclopentolate and 1% atropine retinoscopy findings was developed, and the predictive power of this equation was 84 per cent.
