ABSTRACT The efficacy and
tolerance of intravitreal ganciclovir for cytomegalovinis retinitis in patients with AIDS
was studied.
Ganciclovir in a dose of 4 mig, 0.05 ml was injected into the
vitreous of six patients who were treated at Siriraj Hospital during July to December
1994. They received the injection once a week. The main indication for intravitreal
therapy was economic problem. The patients were followed for a mean period of 9 weeks
(range 2-26 weeks) and total injections were 42. Lesions were improved 5-6 weeks after
injection.
The complication were subconjunctival
hemorrhages and central retinal artery occlusion.
