Abstract A study of ocular injury patients, admitted
at Siriraj Hospital, during one year period, from September 1, 1989 through
August 31, 1990, was carried out.
The
result showed the total number to be 382 patients, 325 males (85.08%), and
57 females (14.92%). One hundred and thirty five cases (35.34%) were occupation
related injuries, of which, 36.3% were blinded. These tragedies would be
greatly reduced, if the eye-protective measure, such as safety-goggles and
face-masks, were enforced, and workers educated.
One major
cause of the accidents studied, was from the nails. The standard of nails
manufacturing should be controlled and the quality should be improved.
