INTRODUCTION
Accommodative
insufficiency, the condition of which accommodanve power is constantly below
the normal limit for the patient's age, is not uncommon in ophthalmlogical
practice It may be due to undue sclerosis of the lens or weakness of the
ciliary muscle. The symptoms are an inability to focus on near objects or
sustain a clear reading for a reasonable period. Although the condition
may be caused by switching from miotics agents like timolol, or giving stronger
minus Iens myopic presbyopes, or uncorrected high hyperopia, most of the
cases is drug induced. Many systemic medication may have
minor cycloplegic side effect, and interference with accommodative activity
does occur when the dosage is excessive. Sometimes, the combination of two
or more drug may accentuate and then reinforces the cycloplegic side-effect
even though the dosage of both drugs are low. The following report is an
example. |
